Knitting With Ike

Sitting in a hospital affords time to knit. So I've been working on Clapotis II -- Charlotte's past-due Christmas present. You know who is modeling it, once again:

This is what the sage color looks like in the sun. I'm still on the 'straight' section, but serious progress is being made and I'm thinking Charlotte will have her Clapotis by July. (Just kidding.)

Ike is really coming along. Yesterday during physical therapy, he walked all the way around the nurses station. WOOT!! He really is a trooper even if he doesn't like doing his exercises. It's not the 'knee' that makes you walk and get up and out of bed, it's the muscles in your legs. His muscles are weak from lack of use over the years. His habit of letting himself 'fall' into his chair that last 12" instead of 'sitting' into his chairs is now catching up with him.

Hopefully today, he'll walk twice around the nurses station. His PT is smart and funny which makes working with her a delight. And Ike is always humorous too, bless his soul. This afternoon he will be moved to rehab for the next 3-5 days in a different hospital. I'm hoping that his new PT's are as wonderful and kind as his last. He has been told he'll be working out a minimum of three hours per day. He's not looking forward to this as right now, it's hard for him to do 12 of anything. But I don't think they'll let him go home until he can get in and out of bed by himself; so we'll see how hard he wants to go home.

He's doing great! I have enjoyed sitting and knitting with him. It all only reminds me that I need to be doing more exercising too! Thigh muscles, I need more thigh muscles!!! Maybe I should start doing the same isometric exercises he's doing at the end of every row while knitting. Build thigh muscles while knitting. It could be a new national rage!! Isometric butt exercises would follow. Maybe work in some Kung Fu after every YO. I'm just saying......
